Fight for Jersey – Stage 3 Preview

Sprinters can snooze a bit, this one is for climbers!

Second hardest stage in terms of climbing and massively important for those targeting Black Jersey. There are 5 climbs to deal with and 30 KOM points to grab. That’s almost one quarter of the entire 9 week points budget.

Funny, we will be riding in the suburbs of London, and yet this stage has almost zero of flat road. The only single kilometer of flat is the first kilometer out of pens until subway enter, everything else is either up or down. And even more significantly, these climbs are hard. They are long and steep enough to split the blob into pieces right on the first climb of the day, the nasty Fox hill. Don’t expect even small groups coming into the finish here, its impossible. In the best case we will see 2 riders coming together into the finish, maybe even sprinting for the last banner at the top of Fox Hill, but more probably everyone will finish for himself. Depleted after some 70-90min of hard and sharp climbing. Without any doubt, we will see who the main protagonist for black jersey is, and the favorite for the black at the end as well.

This stage will be hard for those with an eye on yellow also. They might not need to spend energy by attacking at the climbs or sprinting on hill-top banners like black jersey hunters, but still, they have to be able to follow the strongest and finish very high in the end.

The only group of riders who can take it easier is a group of sprinters and the jersey. This is one of two stages with no points for sprints so they can form a nice gruppetto and chat while others will be drowning in their sweat and pain.

From stage 2 onwards, our Dress code comes to effect. Please read it carefully and don’t forget: fight for the Jersey!

All categories & & & will do 1 lap, 46km distance and 1029m of altitude altogether.

Race happens on Sunday 2.2.2020 at 10.30 CET (10.30 AM CET)

Stage 2 Preview

Important stage for sprinters and fight for Green Jersey!

Stage 2 is a very fast and fairly easy stage with lots of sprint points to grab. 5 laps of Innsbruck ring does not offer any climbing challenge and there are no KOM points, which means that climbers may have an easy day since this is one of two stages without KOM points in 9 week serié. The course is fairly easy, altho it has a short leg snapper, a 400m drag with an 8% gradient which is a regular lunch pad for attacks, but it is not long or steep enough to put any alert sprinter into trouble. However, what is challenging is a combination of leg snapper and intermediate sprint banner very close together. If someone is in trouble or too deep in red numbers over the snapper, he might have trouble with sprint because there is very little time to recover. Do the pressure once, twice, three times in the row, and first cracks might appear. For those who are targeting Green jersey, this stage is very important. It has 30 points to offer with 5 intermediate sprints and one final at the finish line. For a capable sprinter, that’s a lot of points to grab and to accumulate a bit of lead, so he can go safely over the next few stages with Green jersey on shoulders. But on the other side, super hard sprint efforts bring also a lot of possibilities for an ambush too. If someone smart and strong enough counter-attacks the field after sprints there is a huge chance for a break. And if an unexpected break goes out, they might harvest sprint points on their way just as well and yellow jersey can change shoulders as well too. So, the sprinters need to be extremely alert in this stage not to end up with very little payout and the yellow jersey has to be up there all the time. And not only all the time, at the final sprint too. Since the finish is pancake flat, and there is quite a chance for a large group to come into final straight, it is very possible that the yellow jersey might finish on the shoulders of someone fast enough.

From stage 2 onwards, our Dress code comes to effect. Please read it carefully and don’t forget: fight for the Jersey!

Categories & will do 5 laps which is 44 km all together and categories & will do 4 laps, 35km altogether.

Race happens on Sunday at 10.30 CET (10.30 AM CET)

Stage 1 wrap up

Fight for the Jersey has started!

And what an exciting start we had. New York’s ultra dynamic course profile with intermediate sprint and KOM banner so close together, has made the game even more unpredictable.

In category race exploded right after the first sprint. Group of four managed to crest the NY KOM few seconds before following group and than stayed together all the way to home, harvesting most of the sprint and KOM points on their way. Robi Marič crossed the finish line first and got the privilege to wear prestigous jellow jersey on stage 2. Matej Lovse gathered most sprint points thus he will be granted with green jersey privilege on next stage, and Igor Kopse will wear black since Robi Marič must wear higher ranked Yellow and Igor is second by the KOM points.

= Robi Marič

= Matej Lovse

= Igor Kopse

Category had similar scenario. Quick look at the finishing times tells us that entire field of some 40 riders was splitted into smaller groups of 3-4-5 riders. As with Cat A, Damjan Krajnc was able to concquer two jerseys at once. He will be wearing Yellow in stage 2, and Miha Zoubek will wear Green because he is second ranked by sprint points competition. While Simon Strmšek will be the first to wear Black jersey in stage 2. All three where the part of the front group in race.

= Damjan Krajnc
= Miha Zoubek
= Simon Strmšek

In Category we had even more dispersed situation. Only the leading duo of Thomas Reinecke and Petra Zoubek managed to stay together until final drag to finish line, with Thomas conquering all three jerseys at once! Since he can wear only one, the highest ranked Yellow jersey, Petra will have to wear Black. Rajko Petrovic who was the part of original leading trio, faded in the last lap, finished as a third with one minute gap at the end, but was able to score enough points in Sprint competition so he will wear the fastest colour in the peloton, the Green jersey.

= Thomas Reinecke
= Rajko Petrovic
= Petra Zoubek

With first stage behind us, The Jerseys did get their first privileged owners to wear them. Please, read our Dress Code to be maximaly visible and distinguishable from others in the blob. For all others, please avoid those jerseys and leave them for the leaders only. The next stage, stage 2, is a fast stage where only Black jersey is safe since there are no KOM points to grab. But the Yellow and the specially the Green is on stake. Go all-out, attack the jersey with no mercy and try to bring it home.
